Features: This book presents a comprehensive and detailed study of the Longtan Mammal Assemblage from the early Quaternary in Gansu Dongxiang, which was first discovered in the 1999 survey. It describes 31 species belonging to 6 genera, including 1 new genus and 11 new species. The described specimens consist of 165 pieces, most of which are well-preserved skulls and jawbones. The book provides a relatively complete introduction to the diagnostic features, research history, and current status of the extinct genera and species. It also conducts a meticulous comparison with famous animal assemblages from the same period in Eurasia, such as the Nihewan, St. Vallier, and Kuruksay. The composition of the Longtan assemblage and the ecological environment it reflects are analyzed. Based on fossil and paleomagnetic data, the geological age of the assemblage is determined to be between 2.55 million years and 2.16 million years ago.
