Features: A Catalogue of Stratigraphic Units in China (1866–1965) was compiled by the editor in light of the frequent errors in previously published Chinese stratigraphic nomenclature dictionaries. It is a comprehensive compilation of all stratigraphic unit names mentioned in publicly published works after the naming of the Huai'an Formation, China's first regional stratigraphic unit. Each unit name is listed as an independent entry with a brief explanation of its basic information. The Chinese character name and the Pinyin name are listed side by side, and the entire book is arranged in alphabetical order by the Pinyin syllable of the geographic proper noun of the Chinese character name of the stratigraphic unit. The explanations include six components: ① Original (or previously used) names; ② Source of the name (referring to the namer, year, and naming literature); ③ Source location of the geographic proper noun; ④ Lithostratigraphic meaning of the unit; ⑤ Current geological time assignment; ⑥ Synonyms, homonyms, and annotations on issues. The book contains more than 5,000 entries, totaling approximately 1 million words, and is to date the most comprehensive, rigorously researched, accurately explained, and concisely edited geological professional reference book in China for stratigraphic names that appeared in the 100 years before 1965. This book holds significant value for correcting errors in stratigraphic databases and historical records of stratigraphy, and is widely used by researchers from domestic and international geological research institutions, as well as students and faculty from geological universities and professionals in stratigraphic naming and management agencies.
