Author Bio: Begun by Charles Dickens in 1843, A Christmas Carol was published in time for Christmas of the same year. Its first printing of 6,000 copies sold out in one day, and it went back to press two more times before 1844 had rolled around. Because of the expense of printing its color illustrations, it was a financial disappointment for the author—but those who enjoyed it then, and have enjoyed it since, A Christmas Carol could not have been a greater triumph.
