To summarize historical experiences, the renowned Taiwanese scholar, Nan Huaijin, has systematically analyzed ancient Chinese strategy. His lectures were published under the title Experiences from History by the Taiwan Lao Gu Cultural Enterprise Company in two volumes in 1985 and 1986. The first volume selects the essence of Zhao Rui's The Long and Short Classics, Liu Xiang's The Strategies of the Warring States, and Huang Fan's The World's Essentials, supplemented by historical examples of success and failure, discussing the principles of ruling a state, using people, preventing mischief, and distinguishing treachery. The second volume provides a line-by-line interpretation of The Canon of Leadership, The Military Methods of the Duke of Taiping, and The Canon of the Yin Fu. The Canon of Leadership is said to have been passed down by the Yellow Stone Elder and was used by Zhang Liang to assist Liu Bang in unifying China and defeating the Chu State. The military strategies and tactics in the book were immensely helpful, but after Zhang Liang's death, the book went missing. In the Jin Dynasty, someone (t) and discovered it hidden beneath a jade pillow, allowing it to be passed down to the world again. This book focuses on the elaboration of its principles and presents nearly one hundred and fifty historical stories as supplementary notes after the original text, allowing readers to compare history and classics to understand the wisdom of entrepreneurship and interpersonal relationships.
In 1990, with the authorization of the author and the original publishing company, our publishing house merged the two volumes of Experiences from History into one (divided into an upper and lower part) and republished them under the title Wisdom and Strategy in History for research purposes. In 1992, it was republished with its original name. The current edition is the newly revised version published by the Taiwan Lao Gu Cultural Enterprise Company in November 1995.
