Features: In 1939, it was a particularly tough period during the War of Resistance Against Japan. To strengthen the work of the underground radio in Shanghai, the Party Central Committee sent Li Xia, a veteran Long March cadre and the political commissar of the radio station, from Yan'an to Shanghai to operate in the enemy's heart. To protect Li Xia, the Shanghai underground party arranged for He Lanfen, a textile worker and a Communist Party member, to pretend to be his wife. In the harsh environment, they fell in love and later, with approval from their superiors, became truly married. After the Pacific War broke out, Li Xia was unfortunately arrested by the Japanese army. However, he was soon released when the Japanese suspected he was sent by the Kuomintang government in Chongqing. After his release, Yao Wei, an underground Kuomintang member, mistakenly believed Li Xia was a radio operator for a business run by a high-ranking Kuomintang figure in Shanghai and tried to recruit him, hoping to help set up a radio station for a Kuomintang official who was negotiating surrender terms with the Japanese in Shanghai. Li Xia infiltrated the enemy's den and skillfully obtained important intelligence. When the enemy's negotiation secrets were exposed in the newspaper, they realized they had been tricked by Li Xia. By then, Li Xia had already transferred to another location. On the eve of liberation, the enemy launched frenzied searches for underground radio stations in Shanghai, and Li Xia was ordered to transfer. Just then, two urgent and important messages had to be sent and must be sent immediately. Li Xia took the initiative to carry out this important task, having made the worst preparations. He instructed his wife, He Lanfen, to take their son and transfer. Just as he finished sending the radio message, the enemy surrounded his house. Calmly, he sent his final farewell signal to Yan'an.
