How to treat vulvar itching

Patient's question:

19 years old, vulvar itching. The first visit was on February 24. The doctor said it was a fungal infection and prescribed Kangfuyan capsules and Youkeshi sit bath (because medication insertion was not possible). I used it for more than a week and the itching has stopped. The second visit was on March 7 for a follow-up check. The doctor said the fungal infection had improved significantly, but there was still some bacteria present. However, they did not prescribe any medication. After the follow-up, I stopped taking the medication, but a few days later, the itching has returned sometimes, with some itching at night and after washing the buttocks. Today, the itching frequency is slightly higher than the past two days, and it sometimes itches when wiping a certain area. What should I do? Occasionally, I can wipe out something like cottage cheese. I don’t know what to do. Since yesterday, I’ve started using Youkeshi sit bath again, but I haven’t taken the medication. I’ve never had sexual activity. What should I do about this itching? Can you give me more specific advice?

Doctor's answer:

If you have never had sexual activity, do not use internal suppositories. If you have some itching, you can apply the medication externally a few times. For example, Clotrimazole cream or Pramesone cream. Change your underwear frequently and take baths often. During your menstrual period, change your sanitary pads frequently. Except when bathing, do not wash the external genital area with soap. In the evening, just rinse the external genital area with warm water. The daily treatment for patients with external genital itching mainly involves symptomatic medication. Patients can take many oral medications, supplement various vitamins, and pay attention to their diet by eating light, thin, and soft foods.
