Publish Date: 2005-10-01
Features: There is a vibrant person jumping in the lines of his poetry, his voice, tone, and breath are vividly present. His poetry is not coldly carved marble but warm, emotional, and enchanting music. He usually speaks in a familiar and passionate tone, so his writing is also full of charming allure. — Liang Shiqiu
He is not as precise as Wen Yi, but he is also not as calm as him. He is a life-giving stream that jumps and splashes day and night. His love poems are about love for love: they are not necessarily expressions of real life, but rather imagining himself as a lover, like Western poets. — Zhu Ziqing
The magnificent achievements of Zhimo in prose and poetry have not been matched by anyone else in China. He offers a different kind of divine longing. — Shen Congwen
The Poetry of Zhimo was printed in Shanghai by the Commercial Press in August 1925 in a line-bound, copperplate imitation Song Dynasty edition. This poetry collection was completed within two years of Xu Zhimo's return from his studies at Cambridge and marked the initial formation of the style of his poetry. The fundamental ideological tendency of this collection is patriotic, anti-feudal, and advocating "humanity." The most distinctive artistic feature is the poems about ideals and love.
