Preventive Measures for Vulvar Leukoplakia

Patient's question:

A few days ago, my vulva suddenly started itching intensely, and I couldn't stop scratching it. It was especially severe at night, and in some areas, it had even been scratched raw, accompanied by a feeling of pain. It turned out to be leukoplakia of the vulva. I don't know how to prevent this disease in the future.

Doctor's answer:

1. Pay attention to menstrual hygiene, change menstrual pads frequently during menstruation.
2. Always keep the external genital area clean and dry. Avoid hot water soaking and soap scrubbing.
3. Underwear should be loose, breathable, and preferably made of cotton.
4. Avoid alcohol and spicy foods, as well as seafood and other allergenic foods.
5. Avoid indiscriminate medication use, scratching, and local friction.
6. If there is rust or infection in the affected area, you can soak it with a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution (add a small amount of potassium permanganate powder to warm water until it turns light red, but do not make it too concentrated). Soak for 20-30 minutes twice a day.
