How to treat an ovarian cyst

Patient's question:

How to Treat Ovarian Cysts. Hello, I have a cyst on my left side that is 58 by 47, and on my right side it is over forty. How should it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Ovarian cysts can be physiological (meaning they are normal fluctuations in the menstrual cycle that can naturally disappear) or pathological (formed due to disease). Physiological cysts do not require surgery, while pathological cysts often need surgery for definitive diagnosis and additional treatment. Ultrasound results are very helpful for diagnosis. If MRI indicates that the cyst is anechoic (without echoes) and non-segmented, it is advisable to wait and see for 3 months. After 3 months, a repeat MRI should be performed. If the cyst still exists, surgery should be considered for resolution. For cysts other than these, in most cases, they are pathological cysts and surgery is necessary for definitive diagnosis.
