Features: To learn flower-and-bird painting, one must first learn "freehand line drawing." Freehand line drawing does not use any color and completely relies on brushstrokes to depict objects. When painting freehand line drawings, one must carefully study the application of lines as an important means to express the shapes of the flowers and birds being depicted. The varying thickness, rigidity, dryness, and smoothness of the lines, resulting from the use of different brush pressures, speeds, pauses, and turns, are used to portray the different forms and textures of the objects, such as their vigor, age, softness, and hardness. On their freehand line drawings, there are also relationships in the use of color for later full-color paintings, making them excellent learning and reference materials for those studying meticulous flower-and-bird painting.
