Patient's question:
I developed a vaginal infection after getting pregnant. During the second trimester, I was diagnosed with trichomoniasis after a careful examination. The cervical mucus test showed: epithelial cells [number], white blood cells [number], cocci [number], and trichomonads [number]. Everything else was normal (the discharge was yellowish-green and abundant, with much itching in the vagina and a bad odor). I took medication for a week, and it improved for a few days before the infection recurred. I used medication again, and it kept coming back. I used medication four times in total. The last time I took medication for two weeks, and it lasted for more than ten days. Today, I went for a check-up to see if it has recurred. (The discharge is not as abundant as before, but my underwear is still yellowish and wet every day. I think it might be due to the late stage of pregnancy, with a yellowish color, no odor, occasional vaginal itching, and a gestational age of 36 weeks). The doctor who examined my cervical mucus said it is still present. The test results showed: epithelial cells [number], white blood cells [number], and everything else was normal. My prenatal check-ups are all normal. I would like to ask:Doctor's answer:
Trichomoniasis is caused by the Trichomonas parasite. The blood-sucking Trichomonas species include Trichomonas vaginalis, Trichomonas hominis, and Trichomonas oralis, which feed on the urogenital system, intestines, and mouth, respectively. The species relevant to skin conditions is Trichomonas vaginalis, which causes trichomoniasis. It is a parasitic disease primarily spread through sexual contact and is contagious. Underwear and pants should be washed in separate containers to prevent transmission.
