Features: Steel metallurgy has become a part of my life. In the early 1990s, the organization asked me to take on some work in the Party and government leadership. In February 1995, I was asked to shoulder the heavy responsibility of becoming the Mayor of Shanghai. I still couldn't let go of my love for my profession and continued to serve as the supervisor of doctoral students at Shanghai University and a part-time supervisor for the steel metallurgy program at my alma mater, Beijing University of Science and Technology. I often used weekends and evenings to guide two full-time doctoral students. On May 8, 2005, the launch ceremony of the "Xu Kuangdi Collection – Steel Metallurgy Volume" was held in Beijing, followed by a launch seminar. In addition to the two articles, "My Academic Career" written by Academician Xu Kuangdi and "Preface" written by Academician Yin Ruiyu, former Deputy Minister of the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and President of the Central Iron and Steel Research Institute, the book also includes multiple speeches and remarks from the launch ceremony and seminar. Furthermore, the article "Xu Kuangdi's Autobiography" originally published in "Autobiographies of Chinese Academy of Engineering Academicians" is also included.
