When researching the Cold War, the origins of the Cold War are key. Scholars from China and abroad have conducted multi-faceted analyses, with diverse opinions and no definitive conclusion. This book includes an appendix for critiques and discussions.
Emphasizing the investigation and argumentation of historical documents, particularly American and Soviet official documents, including foreign strategies and policies.
Third, the relationship between domestic affairs and foreign policy. Domestic social, political, and economic development serves as the foundation for implementing foreign policy. Foreign policy is a continuation of domestic politics and policies.
At the same time, attention is given to how changes and developments in the international environment have impacted U.S. and Soviet foreign policy, placing the relationship between the U.S., the Soviet Union, and the two military-political groups within the framework of the international political landscape.
Fourth, comparative analysis.
Fifth, highlighting key points with case studies.
Sixth, based on extensive research and the absorption of the achievements of scholars at home and abroad, the book seeks to explore from new perspectives and provide relatively accurate and convincing analyses and conclusions about the Cold War.
This book attempts to elaborate on and analyze the origins, development, and end of the Cold War from multiple levels, angles, and domains.
The original plan for writing The Cold War also included Professor Fang Lianqing and Associate Professor Sha Xiaoming as co-authors. Due to Professor Fang Lianqing's busy teaching and research responsibilities, he later withdrew from the project.
Associate Professor Sha Xiaoming, as a Fulbright visiting scholar, went to the United States to conduct research at Harvard University. Before leaving, he submitted preliminary drafts of parts of chapters 7, 8, 9, and 10 from the original outline.
As needed, the author made substantial revisions and rewrites. To respect the original authors' work, this book retains approximately 40,000 words of content from their contributions.
The author expresses sincere gratitude for the participation and collaboration of Professor Fang Lianqing and Associate Professor Sha Xiaoming, as well as for the hard work they invested.
