Will cervical erosion cause cancer?

Patient's question:

I've been married for five years. I was diagnosed with cervical erosion more than a year ago. At the time, due to my busy work schedule, I couldn't follow up promptly. By the time the examination results came back, it had already progressed to moderate to severe. Under the doctor's guidance, I purchased oral medication, suppositories, and a cleaning solution. After using them for a while, the condition improved and worsened intermittently. I'm concerned that if I continue to delay treatment for cervical erosion, it will worsen and potentially lead to cancer. I also feel that my work pressure is very high, and I often have to work long hours, which might increase the likelihood of developing cancer.

Doctor's answer:

Normal cervical erosion does not cause carcinogens, but severe, long-term, recurrent cervical erosion may lead to cancer transformation. When cervical cancer is about to develop, there may be some abnormal discharge, and the color is also abnormal. Sometimes, the discharge may even emit a foul odor. If anyone has such symptoms, they must take it seriously and seek medical examination as soon as possible. To prevent the possibility of developing cervical cancer, patients with cervical erosion should undergo regular pathological screening.
