Features: In Recollections of Summer Farm, the author describes farm life through the eyes of a city child and his personal experiences with rural life. With vivid penwork and engaging storytelling, the author portrays the shared adventures of two children, such as waging war on pigs and grappling with them in the sty, catching mice in the fields and engaging in a showdown with a mountain cat, imitating Western heroes from movies by riding horses and shooting guns, and installing a washing machine motor on a bicycle, among others. At the same time, the book brings to life vivid rural characters: the clever and lively Harris, his stern older sister Claire who disciplines him, the quiet but loving father, the hardworking and caring mother, and the silent, toothless but voracious farmworker Louis, who never speaks but devours food like there's no tomorrow. These characters are diverse in personality but all kind and approachable, making the work deeply touching. The book has been honored with numerous awards, including being named Best Young Adult Book by the American Library Association (ALA), winning the crown in the 100 Best Children's Reading Books selected by the New York Public Library, and receiving 13 other accolades such as the ALA Editor's Choice Award and the School Library Journal Honor Award.
