Features: Do you suffer from hunchbacks, shoulder and neck pain, and leg numbness due to prolonged sitting and inactivity? Does staring at the screen make you tired, give you headaches, and strain your eyes? As a member of the "sitting tribe," can you say goodbye to a protruding abdomen and large buttocks? Office yoga tells you: with just a chair and a square meter of space, and by taking a few minutes to move, you can bid farewell to the persistent discomfort and troubles of the sitting tribe!
If you are willing to practice yoga, it can help you break free from all desires and distractions, bringing your body and mind into a balanced and stable state. However, you don’t need to practice everything. If you only want a strong spine, flexible muscles, and a relaxed body and mind, then reading this book is enough. The benefit is that once you learn the knowledge yoga teaches you—such as the effects of poor posture or muscle tension caused by incorrect movements—you won’t forget it. You can only move forward. Even if you allow some bad habits to linger, you will be able to recognize them and know how to correct them. The good habits formed through yoga will stay with you, silently reminding you until you develop them into natural habits: standing straight, tightening your abdomen, and maintaining a graceful neck.
Yoga emphasizes balance, aiming to find a healthy and balanced lifestyle. If you attend a yoga class, you’ll discover that all the exercises are designed to be balanced: after completing a right-side bend, you must follow it with a left-side bend; after bending forward, you must then bend backward; after intense poses, you’ll be guided into gentler ones. This balanced approach to life is highly beneficial in the office. For example, typing for long periods on a keyboard is an unbalanced movement—your fingers are constantly repeating the same monotonous action. If you don’t balance it out by allowing your hands to rest and relax, your body may suffer. There are increasingly more cases of repetitive strain injuries, which serve as a clear example. These injuries are preventable, but once they occur, they can be difficult to heal. Yoga can teach you to care for your body through balanced movements.
Why bring yoga into the office? The simple answer is to improve your work efficiency, so you don’t have to leave your tasks for after hours. Today’s office work often means spending hours in front of a computer screen, and the work environment is far from ideal: cramped spaces, lack of ventilation, and harsh lighting. While yoga can’t magically make your desk bigger, speed up your computer, or bring fresh air into your room, it can enhance your ability to cope with your surroundings, work pressure, and the stresses of modern life.
In life, the amount of time we spend sitting is increasing. Whether we’re driving to work, sitting at our desks, or even going to the bathroom (as traditional squat toilets are becoming rarer), we’re mostly seated. Our leg strength is declining, and laziness can become addictive. When faced with automatic doors, how many people would eagerly choose the old-fashioned revolving ones? Once electronic devices can do the work for us, even simple tasks like pushing or pulling are seen as chores.
The more we sit, the weaker the muscles that support our body structure become. Our bellies sag, our spines curve, and our shoulders round. Sometimes, these changes happen without us even realizing it.
