Patient's question:
Recently, I've been feeling unwell and went to the hospital for a thorough check-up. It turned out to be uterine fibroids, so I'd like to understand what uterine fibroids are and whether they are serious.Doctor's answer:
Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive organs and also the most common tumors in the human body. They are also known as fibromas and uterine fibroids. Uterine leiomyomas are mainly composed of uterine smooth muscle cells, with a very small amount of fibrous connective tissue serving as encouragement. Therefore, it is more accurate to call them uterine leiomyomas. Uterine fibroids can lead to pelvic blood clots and infections, with most infections caused by the inversion of the pedicle. In many patients with leiomyoma infections, abscesses may form in the leiomyoma and suppurate. The pathogens after leiomyoma infection can infiltrate other adjacent organs, leading to gynecological diseases such as adnexitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
