Features: As a key research base for humanities and social sciences in general universities jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, the Center for China Special Economic Zone Research at Shenzhen University has taken it as its mission since its establishment to study the general laws of the development of special economic zones, explore the path and model of China's modernization, and research the reform and innovation theory and practice of special economic zones. Seeking the "Root" and "Soul": Exploring the Path of Reform and Innovation in China's Special Economic Zones is one such achievement, featuring selected papers from four China Special Economic Zone Forums held between 2001 and 2004. It reflects the thoughts and aspirations of those in the special economic zones as they explore new paths for reform and innovation in the face of new challenges. I sincerely hope and wish that this collection of essays can attract attention from all sectors of society and achieve tangible results.
