Features: This book aims to systematically introduce the fundamental knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine prescription science, enabling learners of TCM from all over the world to understand the basic principles of prescription composition, usage methods, and clinically common representative prescriptions. It lays a foundation for further applying TCM theory for syndrome differentiation and treatment. The book is divided into three parts: General Theory, Specific Prescriptions, and Appendices. The General Theory introduces the basic theories of prescription science. The Specific Prescriptions categorize 152 clinically common representative prescriptions into 16 classes based on their functions, with a focus on introducing their origins, composition, usage, functions, clinical applications, interpretation, and precautions. For each main prescription, the "Origin" specifies the earliest work in which the prescription was recorded. The "Composition" and "Usage" largely follow the original text, with dosage converted to the metric system. The processing methods of herbs are limited to those commonly used in clinical practice. The preparation methods of some pills and powders are briefly described in the book, and for detailed information, readers can refer to the "Chinese Pharmacopoeia." Powders can be taken as decoctions, and this is not repeated in the text. The "Clinical Applications" first list the syndromes and main symptoms for which the prescription is suitable, followed by the diseases commonly treated with it in clinical practice. If it is a decoction, common modifications are briefly described to help learners understand the variations in prescription application. The "Interpretation" first summarizes the key pathogenesis of the main syndromes, then focuses on explaining the significance and characteristics of drug combinations. The "Precautions" are the same as those outlined in each chapter and are not repeated. The reader should consult them in conjunction with other sections. The appendices present 100 commonly used TCM patent medicines in a tabular format, including their composition, functions, indications, dosage, and specifications. Finally, a Chinese character index for all prescriptions mentioned in the book is provided for easy reference. The book is well-structured, concise, and easy to understand, making it suitable for beginners as an introductory text and as a reference for clinical TCM practitioners in selecting prescriptions and using medications.
