Features: The War of Resistance against Japanese Imperialism was a great national revolutionary war waged by the Chinese people against Japanese imperialist aggression. This war was based on the cooperation between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Kuomintang (KMT), with widespread participation from all sectors of society, ethnic groups, democratic parties, anti-Japanese organizations, patriotic individuals from all social strata, and overseas Chinese. Throughout the War of Resistance, Xinhua News Agency, serving as the voice of the Party Central Committee, played a significant role in promoting the Party's policies and guidelines, mobilizing the nation to unite in resisting Japan, and achieving victory in the war. Comrade Mao Zedong's works, such as "On Protracted War," "On New Democracy," and "On the United Front," were widely disseminated across China and even abroad through Xinhua's efforts. During the War of Resistance, Xinhua also broadcasted important documents and declarations such as the "Ten Great Principles for Saving the Nation from Japanese Aggression," the "Declaration on the Second Anniversary of the War of Resistance," the "Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's Declaration on the Third Anniversary of the War of Resistance," the "Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's Declaration on the Fourth Anniversary of the War of Resistance," and the "Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's Declaration on the Fifth Anniversary of the War of Resistance."
Throughout the War of Resistance, Xinhua consistently upheld the banner of saving the nation from peril and striving for victory, promptly disseminating the Party Central Committee's policies and guidelines on all-out resistance, protracted resistance, and maintaining the fight; promoting unity and progress while opposing surrender, division, and regression; overcoming difficulties, and striving for final victory in the war. It clarified the Party's strategic thinking on guerrilla warfare, reported the heroic sacrifices and significant contributions of the Chinese people in achieving victory in the war, reflected the achievements in construction across Yan'an, Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, and other anti-Japanese democratic bases, exposed the atrocities of the enemy and the conspiracies of traitors and surrenderists, introduced the progress of the World War against Fascism, and reported on domestic democratic and patriotic movements.
During the War of Resistance, Xinhua also broadcasted many news reports and dispatches that introduced the heroic struggles and achievements of the people and soldiers in various anti-Japanese bases in overcoming difficulties. At the same time, as the eyes and ears of the Party and the people, Xinhua swiftly and widely collected important information from both domestic and international sources, providing the Party Central Committee with a wealth of reference materials for decision-making. All of Xinhua's work, under extremely difficult conditions where the anti-Japanese bases were often isolated and besieged by the enemy, helped to foster unity and cooperation among the people and soldiers in the bases, guiding them under the centralized leadership of the Party Central Committee in their struggle for national independence and final victory. Under exceptionally harsh conditions, Xinhua overcame numerous challenges and fulfilled its mission of news and publicity entrusted by the Party and the people, creating many miracles in the history of journalism and making significant contributions to the final victory in the War of Resistance.
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's War of Resistance against Japanese aggression, colleagues from the Xinhua News Research Institute selected relevant reports from Xinhua during the War of Resistance from publications such as Red China, New China, Yan'an Liberation Daily, and Jin-Cha-Ji Daily, and compiled this book, Xinhua Journalists' Accounts of the War of Resistance, published by Xinhua News Agency. Through these articles, we can see on-the-spot accounts of major events during the War of Resistance, authentic records of key battles, exposure and condemnation of the brutal crimes of the Japanese invaders, vivid descriptions of the Chinese anti-Japanese armed forces striking the enemy, and lively portrayals of the deeds of anti-Japanese martyrs. All of these were written with the lives and blood of Xinhua journalists on the battlefields of the anti-Japanese war. In the fierce struggle against the enemy, many outstanding journalists sacrificed their precious lives for the revolution, and their glorious deeds and immortal spirit will forever be recorded in history. Xinhua Journalists' Accounts of the War of Resistance also documents an unforgettable and glorious page in the history of Xinhua.
This preface is hereby written in memory.
