"People from all directions— / From countless villages / From various bases / From liberated villages / From various bases / From liberated areas." "Zhangjiakou— / The City of the People / The Beautiful City / The Happy City / The Glorious City!" On August 23, 1945, the Eighth Route Army liberated Zhangjiakou, a North China strategic city, from the hands of the Japanese and puppet forces, and the puppet "Mengjiang Government" supported by the Japanese invaders collapsed completely. This was the first provincial capital city seized by the Eighth Route Army from the Japanese since the Anti-Japanese War. After its liberation, Zhangjiakou became the headquarters of the Central Bureau of Shanxi-Jibei-Chaohai, the Shanxi-Jibei-Chaohai Border Region Military and Political, Cultural Organizations, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Movement League, serving as the political, military, and cultural center of the liberated area. It accumulated valuable experience for the Communist Party of China in managing large cities. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Mao Zedong attached great importance to Zhangjiakou, sending a large number of cadres from Yan'an. For a time, Zhangjiakou became the famous Yan'an and Shanxi-Jibei-Chaohai celebrity gathering in modern Chinese history, with a large number of cultural figures from Shanxi-Jibei-Chaohai and Yan'an gathering in Zhangjiakou. This magnificent cultural and artistic army instantly brought Zhangjiakou's literary scene to a prosperity never seen before, making it a world-famous "Cultural City" and earning it the nickname "Second Yan'an." Foreign journalists flocked to Zhangjiakou for interviews. Zhangjiakou was hailed as the "Model City of the East" by journalists from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and other countries.
