In terms of structure. To ensure content coherence and reduce repetition, the authors have abolished the division into separate sections, organizing chapters according to the periods of Western political thought development. The relevant content from the introductory sections of each chapter in the original textbook has been consolidated into a single "Introduction." Since most teaching schedules treat modern Western political thought as a separate course, and numerous works on 20th-century Western political thought have already been published, the authors have also compiled Twentieth-Century Western Political Trends. Therefore, this book covers only up to the end of the 19th century.
In terms of content. First, the authors strive to reveal the trajectory of Western political thought development beyond economic and political factors, by examining the Western political culture tradition. They highlight that the history of Western political thought has undergone several stages, including natural political views, theological politics, and rights-based political thought, thereby further understanding the patterns and valuable aspects of Western political thought.
Second, rationalism has held a dominant position in the history of Western political thought, largely influenced by the development of science and philosophy. This time, the authors have organically explained how the progress of science and philosophy in major historical periods has impacted political thought.
In terms of specific content, the authors have also made substantial additions, deletions, and revisions. As a result, this textbook can be considered a completely new work.
