Features: This textbook selects and explains over seventy articles for analysis. The chosen texts mainly include classical Chinese literature, famous poems, and biographies of notable figures, except for the last piece, "Beethoven's Centenary," by George Bernard Shaw. The analysis is divided into three aspects: "Background Introduction," "Content Review," and "Artistic Appreciation." This arrangement not only helps readers better understand the texts but also broadens their knowledge. In early 2004, relevant national authorities designated the full-time university textbook "College Chinese," originally compiled and published by the Higher Education Department of the former Ministry of Education to improve the cultural literacy of college students, as the "National Key Textbook for General Higher Education in the 15th Five-Year Plan." Consequently, the chief editors, Mr. Xu Zhongyu and Mr. Qi Senhua, along with East China Normal University Press, organized the writing team to revise the book extensively and published it under the title "College Chinese (8th Edition)." Compared to previous textbooks for this course, the "College Chinese (8th Edition)" introduces new ideas in both the selection of texts and the format. The teaching focus of some texts also differs from before. Therefore, at the request of the two chief editors and the invitation of East China Normal University Press, we compiled this teaching aid to provide some assistance or reference for relevant teachers and students. This book selects over seventy texts from the textbook for explanation and analysis, dividing the content into three aspects: "Background Introduction," "Content Review," and "Artistic Appreciation." "Background Introduction" is designed to help readers better understand the texts by providing relevant knowledge, including the era of writing, the reasons behind the composition, the author's life experiences, thoughts, emotions, and specific backgrounds as well as the broader social, historical, ideological, and cultural contexts. "Content Review" first summarizes the main ideas of each section or paragraph to analyze the structural relationships between different parts of the text, guiding readers in grasping the overall narrative. Second, based on a general summary of the text's main content, it reveals its central theme, evaluates its ideological value, recognition significance, or shortcomings. "Artistic Appreciation" refers to the "Suggestions" in the textbook, selecting the most important points and providing specific analysis and elaboration in line with the actual works. It focuses not only on the artistic characteristics of each text but also considers basic perspectives for appreciating the artistic features of literary works, striving to integrate these methods into the analysis. Additionally, most of the analysis articles include a "Resource Links" section at the end, compiling historical records, reviews, and the titles of relevant works for reference. Due to time constraints, the references for a few texts could not be gathered in time and are temporarily omitted.
