How is Candida vulvovaginitis treated?

Patient's question:

Candida vulvovaginitis, previous week's onset, treatment history and effectiveness: After a thorough examination, the doctor gave me an intravenous injection and lent me medication. The doctor said oral medication was unnecessary, so I had to use topical medication. However, when the doctor applied the medication, I felt it was painful. Now, I don't know if I should continue the treatment.

Doctor's answer:

Candidal vulvovaginitis (also known as candidiasis) primarily exhibits symptoms such as external genital itching, burning pain, cottage cheese-like discharge, or creamy clumpy vaginal discharge that significantly increases in amount. It is recommended to use alkaline solutions, such as 2% to 4% sodium bicarbonate or soapy water, to clean the external genital area and vagina to alter the vaginal pH, making it more conducive to fungal growth. After cleaning, insert miconazole tablets or clotrimazole suppositories into the vagina, with a dosage of 100,000 to 200,000 units each time, once daily, for a 14-day course. Additionally, apply 3% clotrimazole cream or triamcinolone acetonide econazole cream to the external genital area for better results. Wishing you good health.
