Is it possible to have an ectopic pregnancy?

Patient's question:

Hello! When I was 47 days pregnant, I had an ultrasound which showed an intrauterine fundal echo area, approximately 2015MM, and a low echo mass in the left adnexal area, about 2116MM. My HCG was 2838. Then on September 28th, I had a D&C surgery, and the pathology of the aspirated material showed; decidua-like tissue. There was continuous bleeding until October 5th. An ultrasound on October 5th revealed intrauterine fluid collection, a liquid dark area in the left adnexal area, about 108MM, and pelvic fluid. My HCG was 679. The doctor hasn’t said what it is, just telling me to wait. I’m really suffering from waiting and don’t know if it’s an ectopic pregnancy. Please help me take a look, thank you!

Doctor's answer:

Based on your description and the careful examination results, the possibility of ectopic pregnancy is very high. At 47 days of pregnancy, the normal HCG level should be above 8,000, but your HCG level is significantly low. Additionally, the pathology report after the D&C surgery only showed decidua-like tissue, which does not support an intrauterine early pregnancy, and you have been experiencing bleeding. Considering the above conditions, it can basically be confirmed that it is an ectopic pregnancy. It is recommended that you go to a good maternal and child health hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. Your condition is likely an ectopic pregnancy, and the previous hospital should bear some medical responsibility.
