Features: The Tai Chi Kung Fu Fan "Sunset Beauty" is the author's follow-up creation to the original Tai Chi Kung Fu Fan. It aims to enrich the fitness activities for elderly friends, adding fun, diversity, and enhancing the fitness effects. Like the original, "Sunset Beauty" Tai Chi Kung Fu Fan is based on martial arts movements, incorporating elements of Peking Opera and dance, combined with the content and rhythm of Chinese Kung Fu songs, creating a unique style of singing and dancing, alternating between fast and slow, blending strength and grace, lively and novel. The entire set consists of 56 movements, divided into six sections and two interludes. The activity area is approximately 5m x 2m.
Section movements are synchronized with the slow tempo (66 beats per minute) of the song "Chinese Kung Fu," with each movement lasting eight beats. The actions are gentle, natural, light, and steady. Sections 2 and 4 combine the song with a fast tempo (104 beats per minute), adopting long-fist-style martial arts movements, with each movement lasting four beats. The rhythm is clear, and the actions are crisp and expansive. Sections 3 and 5 synchronize with the rhythmic recitation of the song, incorporating (powerful execution) movements from Nanquan (Southern Fist), Baguazhang (Eight Trigram Palm), Xingyiquan (Form-Intention Fist), and Chen-style Tai Chi rolling, as well as weapon movements like the dao (saber), qiang (spear), jian (sword), and gun (staff). Each movement also lasts four beats, with actions that are strong and robust, interspersed with rotations and jumps. Section 6 returns to the slow tempo (66 beats per minute), primarily using Yang-style Tai Chi movements, with each movement lasting eight beats. Within the steady and gentle actions, variations and contrasts are added to make the content soft yet engaging, with deep charm.
The two interludes feature intermittent shaping movements, which can help adjust energy levels or form waves or formations during group performances. Compared to the original Tai Chi Kung Fu Fan, both are designed for fitness among middle-aged and elderly friends, with a moderate intensity. By the end of the entire set, the heart rate is around 120 beats per minute, with jumping and powerful execution movements not exceeding 150 beats per minute. In terms of content, the two sets are designed to complement each other, avoiding repetition, and this set improves on movement variation and performance effects. Beginners without martial arts experience can generally master the set after 12–15 hours of instruction.
To address potential difficulties for elderly beginners, we have introduced two practice methods for several challenging movements, allowing individuals to choose based on their own circumstances.
