Features: The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) was established in 1984 by the Japan Foundation and the Japan International Education Association. It is held simultaneously in various locations around the world on the Sunday in December each year. Over the past two decades, the JLPT has become a world-renowned and authoritative examination program. Although Japan has recently been considering the implementation of other exams such as the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, the JLPT remains unshakable in its position. With the expanding global influence of the JLPT and the development of China's reform and opening-up policies, the number of candidates has been increasing year by year, and there are now more teaching materials and reference books available. As a result, learners and readers have higher demands for various preparatory guides. To further meet the needs of, we have continued to write the New International Japanese Language Proficiency Test Analysis (1998–2001) (1–4 Levels) based on the New International Japanese Language Proficiency Test Analysis (1990–1997) (1–4 Levels). This book follows the same format as the New International Japanese Language Proficiency Test Analysis (1990–1997) (1–4 Levels) and retains the following features:
1. Up-to-date and Comprehensive, Authoritative in Nature. The questions in this book are all original from the JLPT held between 1998 and 2001, making it the most comprehensive and up-to-date collection of past exam questions. It fully references the latest research materials on the JLPT, such as the "Key Points of JLPT Question Setting" published by the Japan Foundation, which helps readers familiarize themselves with the recent difficulty and format of exam questions.
2. Well-Organized and Highly Targeted. This book does not simply list questions but scientifically categorizes them based on reader needs and teaching practices. Questions of the same type—such as grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and kanji—are grouped together for unified training and explanation. Readers can study and train systematically based on their own levels. Additionally, the book is divided into levels, allowing readers to choose the appropriate edition for their Japanese proficiency.
3. Scientific Explanations to Enhance Japanese Proficiency and Exam Skills. The focus of this book is not only on improving exam skills but also on enhancing readers' overall Japanese ability. The best way to prepare for an exam is to build on actual language proficiency. The explanations and annotations in this book highlight key points and difficulties rather than covering everything, aiming to improve readers' abilities.
4. Positive Problem-Solving Approach. The book emphasizes solving problems through affirmative methods rather than negation, and it analyzes the question formats and their characteristics to help readers better grasp the types and key points of questions.
5. Supplemented with Audio Tapes. The book comes with two audio tapes featuring original JLPT materials and recordings, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the exam environment and overcome the main challenges of the test.
In addition to using the latest questions as teaching materials, this edition focuses on two key areas:
First, it further strengthens the improvement of practical ability by adding example sentences and explanations, enabling readers to master Japanese more effectively and quickly while preparing for the exam.
Second, it emphasizes continuity, such as marking grammar points that have frequently appeared in past exams. The higher the frequency of appearance, the more important the content is to master.
As mentioned in the preface of the New International Japanese Language Proficiency Test Analysis (1990–1997) (1–4 Levels), this book was written by the authors after summarizing years of teaching experience and collecting authoritative information from around the world, addressing the shortcomings of similar books in China. It is suitable not only for JLPT candidates but also for college students and teachers, overseas workers, and employees of joint ventures. We hope that readers will fully utilize the features of this book to learn Japanese effectively and achieve excellent results in the exam. We believe that with proper use of this book, success will surely bring joy!
This book was co-conceived by Xiu Gang and Zhang Xiaoxi. Grammar and reading comprehension were written by Zhang Xiaoxi, while kanji, vocabulary, and some listening comprehension sections were written by Fu Wuyuan. Exchange students from Musashino Joshi University, Ishii Tomoko and Yashida Mayuko, participated in the preparation of the listening section. The book was edited by Zhang Xiaoxi and Du Wuyuan, and reviewed by Zhang Xiaoxi and Xiu Gang. Layout was completed by Du Wuyuan. The publication of this book was greatly supported and encouraged by Ms. Jiao Jingyi of Nankai University Press. We express our gratitude once again.
