Is low hCG always an ectopic pregnancy?

Patient's question:

My wife is bleeding and has stomach pain. After a thorough examination at the hospital, they found low hCG levels and said it might be an ectopic pregnancy. Is low hCG always an ectopic pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

If human chorionic gonadotropin reappears and the level is low, then the possibility of ectopic pregnancy is relatively high. You can retest your human chorionic gonadotropin in a couple of days. If the value from the subsequent examination is several times higher than the previous ones, then it should not be considered ectopic pregnancy. If there is ectopic pregnancy, surgical treatment can be performed. Do not be overly anxious and actively cooperate with treatment.
