This meets the needs of the reform and development of higher medical education in China and implements the requirements of the Ministry of Education for the construction of university textbooks. The National Higher Medical Education Textbook Construction Research Association and the Textbook Office of the Ministry of Health held the first national planning textbook writing meeting for the eight-year clinical medical program in Beijing. At the meeting, it was determined to write a set of 32 eight-year textbooks, including cell biology, and the principles and guiding ideology for writing this set of textbooks were clearly proposed. The meeting pointed out that the eight-year program is designed to train medical doctors, and the goal of eight-year medical education is to broaden the knowledge base, broaden the thinking, and lay a solid foundation for the educated. The textbook writing should align with this training goal. The meeting required that the textbook writing should adhere to the "Three Basics" (basic theory, basic knowledge, basic skills) and the "Five Qualities" (ideological nature, scientific nature, advanced nature, inspirational nature, applicability) on the basis of, and should achieve "updating, deeper, and more refined," strive for innovation in content and form, and demand high quality, forming a high-quality product. This book has a total of 870,000 words, divided into 16 chapters, with 332 illustrations. All illustrations, except for photographs, were self-drawn and colored.
