Does endometrial hyperplasia require surgical treatment?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried about it affecting my fertility, and I also feel extremely cold and afraid of the cold. Do I need surgical treatment for endometrial hyperplasia?

Doctor's answer:

Endometrial hyperplasia is clinically manifested as functional uterine bleeding, with the main symptoms being irregular menstruation, prolonged menstrual periods, and excessive menstrual flow. The vast majority of patients experience recurrence during menopause or adolescence. Its recurrence is related to excessive estrogen secretion by the ovaries and a lack of progesterone. The irregular uterine bleeding caused by endometrial hyperplasia is due to anovulation of ovarian follicles. Due to the continuous secretion of estrogen by the ovaries, it leads to endometrial hyperplasia on one hand and inhibits the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland on the other. Ultimately, the follicles undergo atrophy due to the lack of stimulation from follicle-stimulating hormone, resulting in a sudden increase in estrogen secretion. For patients with severe endometrial hyperplasia, immediate symptomatic treatment and appropriate medication are necessary.
