To support the implementation of the College English Teaching Syllabus (Revised Edition), the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) launched the College English (New Edition) series of textbooks at the beginning of the new millennium, aiming to contribute further to the development of college English education in China. The entire series was co-authored by experienced professors and English teaching experts from renowned institutions such as Fudan University, Peking University, East China Normal University, University of Science and Technology of China, South China University of Technology, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Nankai University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The series consists of three types of textbooks—Comprehensive, Listening and Speaking, and Reading (including Extensive and Fast Reading)—along with a grammar manual. Additionally, preparatory-level textbooks for the first three courses are available for students with lower starting levels.
Centered around the Comprehensive textbook, each unit explores a theme reflecting contemporary life, supplemented by the Listening and Speaking, Reading, and Fast Reading textbooks. This approach guides students in comprehensively acquiring and mastering language and cultural knowledge related to each theme. Each course includes exercises designed in the style of CET exams, and the Comprehensive textbook’s Test Yourself section is formatted as CET, helping students familiarize themselves with the exam’s format and requirements.
