Features: This book, A History of Modern Chinese Diplomacy (1919-1949), was written based on my two sets of lecture notes. One set was used for teaching second-degree students, graduate students, doctoral students, and international students at the Diplomatic Academy of China. The other set was used for training young and middle-aged cadres at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the process of compiling A History of Modern Chinese Diplomacy, three main threads were primarily followed: First, the main thread of the international environment. In these 30 years, China remained a semi-feudal and semi-colonial country. Second, the main thread of China's domestic policies. Diplomacy is the continuation of domestic policies. Third, the main thread of the role of the Communist Party of China. This was the red line that determined China's fate during these 30 years. According to the above three main threads, the main content of the A History of Modern Chinese Diplomacy I compiled narrates the history of Chinese diplomacy from the May Fourth Movement in 1919 to the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. These 30 years were a period of earth-shaking changes in China. China evolved from a semi-feudal and semi-colonial country, which was partitioned and exploited by various imperialist powers, into a thriving socialist new country under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, standing tall among the nations of the world, pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace and friendship, and flourishing. The history of Chinese diplomacy during these 30 years is extremely rich and intricate. Since China was a country subjected to aggression and exploitation by various imperialist powers, its political situation was often closely related to the policies of these countries and the developments and changes in the international situation. The impact of various external factors on China was often immense, sometimes even decisive.
