Patient's question:
I've recently been feeling discomfort down there, with abnormal discharge that's yellow and a bit excessive. Plus, I have itching and swelling/pain in the outer vulva. I've tried using vaginal washes and suppositories, but they haven't helped, and they're not even targeting the right issue. Could an expert confirm if vulvar swelling/pain with abnormal discharge can be diagnosed as vaginitis?Doctor's answer:
If there is a burning sensation and discomfort with swelling in the external genital area, accompanied by increased vaginal discharge, itching, and a bad odor, it could be considered vaginitis. If the treatment is not targeted correctly, the therapeutic effect will be relatively poor. Your condition may be a mixed infection of bacteria and fungi. It is best to undergo a routine vaginal discharge examination to determine the type of vaginitis. If it is a mixed-type vaginitis, use miconazole nitrate suppositories for 1-2 courses of treatment, during which sexual intercourse should be avoided.
