Features: Maurice de Vlaminck (1876–1958) was a French painter. Born on April 4, 1876, in Paris, and died on October 11, 1958, in Rueil-la-Gadelière. He called himself a rebel against tradition and once claimed to destroy art schools with cobalt blue and crimson. In his painting, he loved to use strong contrasts in color, believing that color itself had a powerful emotional impact. In the early stage, he belonged to the Fauvism movement, but after 1908, he gradually abandoned Fauvism and began to embrace the influence of Cubism. Vlaminck was a renowned Fauvist painter of the same generation as Matisse and Derain. His style is considered a typical and distinctive Fauvist approach. He skillfully employed strong contrasts in color and wild brushwork. He said, "I depict the truth of humanity." Beyond oil painting, he also created many colorful prints.
