Features: The entries in this dictionary include basic English words, general words, foreign words, abbreviations, affixes, combinatorial morphemes, names of organizations, terms in social sciences and natural sciences, etc. A complete entry in this dictionary may contain the following parts: headword, part of speech, definition, examples, idioms, cross-references, and notes. Most entries do not include all of the above parts, with the main parts of an entry being the headword, part of speech, and definition. Entries are arranged in alphabetical order. Words with the same spelling but different origins or meanings are listed as separate entries, with numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) marked in the upper right corner of the headword. The headword can be a single word, a compound word, a phrase, an abbreviation, an affix, or a combinatorial morpheme. Headwords are printed in black bold font. For headwords with multiple spelling forms, only the most common one or a few are listed. The spelling form of the headword is generally in American English. When a singular noun headword is defined with a meaning that requires a plural form, the plural form should be noted before the definition. Abbreviated headwords may either only list the full form without Chinese translation to direct the reader to the full form entry, or include a Chinese translation after the full form.
