What are some situations where there is no pregnancy after a miscarriage?

Patient's question:

I had a miscarriage before, but after the miscarriage, I haven't been able to get pregnant. I had a tubal done, but the results haven't come back yet. I want to prepare myself mentally, so I'd like to ask the doctor first about some possible reasons for my situation.

Doctor's answer:

A history of a miscarriage, and now experiencing infertility again, constitutes secondary infertility. In most cases, this is often caused by fallopian tube blockage. Therefore, a fallopian tube (hysterosalpingography) can be performed. If the fallopian tube shows that the tubes are patent (unobstructed), there is generally no major issue, and other factors conducive to pregnancy should be investigated. However, if the fallopian tube indicates that the tubes are partially blocked or completely blocked, treatment such as fallopian tube hydrotubation, wire-guided catheterization surgery, or direct in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be necessary.
