Features: The research object of this book is the landscapes depicted as backgrounds in the Dunhuang murals. Based on a comprehensive survey of landscape elements in the murals of the Northern Wei to Yuan dynasties in the Dunhuang caves, the author analyzes and discusses the stylistic characteristics and origins of landscapes in each era, and systematically outlines the features and developmental changes of landscape painting in the Central Plains region since the Wei and Jin periods. The book focuses on analyzing the influence of Chinese literati consciousness on landscape painting, concluding that some elements in the Dunhuang mural landscapes reflect traditional Chinese literati consciousness. In terms of research methodology, it emphasizes both the study of Buddhist classics and the investigation of Chinese classical literature, particularly Confucian texts, to verify the traditional Chinese ideological connotations of Dunhuang landscape painting.
