Features: From April 2001 to November 2002, in coordination with the construction of the Xiangyang (Fan) to Shiyuan and Xiangyang (Fan) to Jingzhou highway connection line, the Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the Xiangyang Archaeological Team, and the Xiangyang Cultural Relics Management Office formed a joint archaeological team to explore and excavate 173 tombs at Wangpo in Xiangyang. The tombs date from the early Spring and Autumn period, the late Warring States period to the Qin dynasty, the Western Han dynasty, and the Eastern Han dynasty. This report systematically documents this collection of data and concludes that the Wangpo cemetery was a burial ground for the noble families of Deng during the early Spring and Autumn period, a burial ground for Qin people and Chu descendants who occupied and ruled Deng City during the later period of the late Warring States period (after the Qin conquest of Ying in 278 BC) to the Qin dynasty, a public burial ground for the residents of Deng City during the Western Han dynasty, and a family burial ground for local officials or wealthy landowners during the Eastern Han dynasty. The excavation of the Wangpo cemetery fills the gaps in the discovery of noble tombs of Deng and Qin tombs in the Xiangyang area. This report provides important material evidence for exploring the history and culture of Deng, establishing a chronological sequence of Qin and Han culture in the region, and studying the evolution of Chu, Qin, Han cultures, as well as the exchange of multiple cultures. This book is suitable for researchers and students in the fields of cultural relics and archaeology, museums, and history, as well as those in related disciplines.
