What are the symptoms of pelvic inflammatory disease?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been experiencing vaginal bleeding without any other symptoms, and I'm really worried that I might have some illness. Since I'm too busy at work to go to the hospital, a friend told me it might be pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), as she had it before. I'd like to ask the doctor what are the symptoms of PID?

Doctor's answer:

(1) Acute pelvic inflammatory disease: A history of acute infectious diseases, characterized by lower abdominal pain, muscle tension, tenderness and rebound tenderness, accompanied by a rapid heart rate, fever, and a large amount of purulent secretions in the vagina. In severe cases, symptoms may include high fever, headache, chills, loss of appetite, a large amount of foul-smelling yellow leukorrhea, lower abdominal pain, tenderness, and lower back pain. When peritonitis is present, symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, dry retching, and vomiting may reappear.
(2) Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease: Systemic symptoms may include occasional low-grade fever, fatigue, and some patients may experience neurotic symptoms such as neurasthenia, lack of energy, and general malaise due to the prolonged course of the disease. Lower abdominal heaviness, pain, and lower back pain often worsen after physical exertion, sexual intercourse, or around the menstrual period.
