Patient's question:
Ultrasound shows I have residual fluid, I usually have my period for 8-9 days and it ends on the 13th day. My menstrual cycle is 23 days. I have an IUD, do I need treatment?Doctor's answer:
This depends on how much pelvic effusion you have and whether you have any symptoms. Generally, a depth of 1-2 cm is considered a very small amount of effusion, and women may experience a small amount of pelvic effusion again during their menstrual period or ovulation period. This does not require treatment. A depth of 2-3 cm is considered a moderate amount of effusion, and anything greater than 3 cm is considered a large amount of effusion. If the effusion is caused by pelvic inflammatory disease or other conditions, there are likely to be related symptoms or other abnormalities discovered during examination. Pelvic inflammatory disease may cause lower abdominal pain, heaviness, and lower back pain, among other symptoms.
