Features: The study of the history of Chinese aesthetic categories, as an important academic topic, has long attracted due attention and interest from the academic community. When the author of this book, Wang Yun, who was pursuing a doctoral degree, decided to undertake this research and was assigned the task of studying and writing the Tang Dynasty section, it was incorporated into his doctoral dissertation plan. The basic content of this book was originally part of the "History of Chinese Aesthetic Categories" (a three-volume work) that I edited and co-authored. It is also a text that Wang Yun significantly revised and enriched based on his doctoral dissertation. In my view, the history of Chinese aesthetic categories is a textual journey of a dynamic three-dimensional structure composed of "qi, dao, and xiang" and their clusters. In terms of their cultural qualities, ideological and thinking connotations, the anthropological "qi," the philosophical "dao," and the artistic "xiang," as the original, principal, and fundamental categories rooted in ancient Chinese culture, along with their respective clusters, have undergone a long period of incubation (from the pre-Qin to the Qin and Han dynasties), construction (from the Wei and Jin to the Tang), and completion (from the Song and Ming to the Qing) in the historical and humanistic context of China. They have been forged into the three fundamental aesthetic categories and their respective clusters of the history of Chinese aesthetic categories, permeating, integrating, and synthesizing with each other to jointly construct the historical and humanistic edifice of the history of Chinese aesthetic categories......
