Can a woman with preeclampsia in her first pregnancy still have a second child?

Patient's question:

I am 32 years old this year, and I have a soft and cute daughter who is already 8 years old. My mother-in-law has always had a preference for sons over daughters. Now that my daughter is already 8 years old, she keeps persuading me to have another boy. But when I had my first child, I suffered from preeclampsia. Can I still have a second child if I had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

If you are planning to get pregnant again, first carefully check to see if your blood pressure is normal, or it would be much safer to control your blood pressure before getting pregnant. If you have a family history of hypertension, the risk of getting pregnant again is relatively high, because pregnancy-induced hypertension during pregnancy may again lead to premature birth or eclampsia. Therefore, it is safer to do early prevention work.
