Is it normal for 62 people to have elderly uterine prolapse?

Patient's question:

My mother is 62 years old this year. A few weeks ago, I took her for a full health check-up, and one of the items, the gynecological examination, revealed that my mother's uterus has atrophied and is also bent. I am not aware if uterine prolapse in the elderly is normal. Could you please tell me if it is normal for the elderly to have uterine prolapse?

Doctor's answer:

For uterine prolapse, it is most common in elderly women and may be associated with giving birth multiple times, as well as engaging in heavy physical labor too soon after childbirth. Due to the atrophy of the uterus and ovaries, as well as ligament relaxation in old age, this stage makes it easier to experience symptoms of uterine prolapse again. If there are no obvious symptoms, treatment is usually not necessary. However, if uterine prolapse causes significant symptoms, such as lower abdominal pain or recurrent infections, surgical treatment may be necessary when appropriate.
