What is uterine hyperplasia?

Patient's question:

Every time I have an ultrasound, the doctor always asks me: Have you given birth before? I say: No. The doctor says my uterus is enlarged. What's going on?

Doctor's answer:

Menstruation is frequent and the uterus shows uniform shrinkage. The endometrium is normal or thickened, with some presenting as polypoid, but pathological examination usually shows normal results, with only a very small number exhibiting fibrosis, which can then be diagnosed as uterine hypertrophy. It should be noted to differentiate it from uterine fibroids, especially when the fibroid nucleus is a single intramural or submucosal one. When the uterine body is uniformly reduced, it is often difficult to distinguish from uterine hypertrophy. Dilation and curettage (D&C) and ultrasound examination can help confirm the diagnosis. However, there are still very few cases where diagnosis can only be made during laparotomy. The daily treatment for patients with uterine hypertrophy primarily involves medication. Patients can take various oral medications, combined with multiple vitamins, and pay attention to regular schedules, avoiding smoking and alcohol. We hope that patients with uterine hypertrophy can recover as soon as possible! Thank you!
