How to check endometrial hyperplasia?

Patient's question:

I have a close friend who has been feeling quite uncomfortable lately. I suggested that he take some time to go to a hospital for a check-up. The doctor informed him that he has endometrial hyperplasia and recommended further tests. However, I'm not very clear about it, so I'd like to understand how endometrial hyperplasia is checked?

Doctor's answer:

The thickness of the endometrium varies cyclically. During menstruation, it is the shedding phase of the endometrium. After menstruation, the endometrium thickens and reaches about 1.0~1.2 before the next menstrual period. If your endometrium is thicker than 1.2, it indicates endometrial thickening, and a dilation and curettage (D&C) with pathology examination may be necessary. If the examination only shows simple endometrial thickening and excludes uterine lesions, there is no need to be overly concerned. Medication can be used to control the treatment.
