Is it normal not to have a menstrual period for over a month after a natural miscarriage?

Patient's question:

On December 19, 2010, I had a natural miscarriage. A careful ultrasound examination revealed some residual tissue, but it was not necessary to have a D&C. I was advised to take some super-energy medication.
On January 2, 2011, a follow-up examination showed a little bit of something, but it wasn’t clear if it was residual tissue. The doctor said it would be fine if there was no vaginal bleeding. However, on January 3, there was no bleeding.
What help do I need:
On January 25, there were a few streaks of blood. I thought it was the start of my period, but the streaks disappeared after a bit. A few days later, there were streaks again, but it wasn’t a period. I had some mild cramping like during my period, but it went away after a while. Now, it’s February 12, and my period still hasn’t come.
Everything else with my body is fine, and I haven’t felt any discomfort.
Is something wrong with me? Why do I have streaks of blood but no period?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! After a miscarriage, if you have just started menstruating again and haven't fully established a new menstrual cycle yet, the symptoms you mentioned, such as lighter bleeding or shorter intervals between periods, are normal. Over time, your body will gradually adjust and establish a new menstrual cycle on its own. So, there's no need to worry too much or add unnecessary stress to yourself. Your body can recover on its own as long as you maintain a regular lifestyle and take good care of your health.
