Features: In Japan's invasion strategy of China, the importance of South China (excluding Hainan Island) was far less than that of Northeast, North China, and Central China. Similarly, the absolute losses caused by Japan's economic destruction and plunder in Guangdong were relatively smaller than those in the aforementioned regions. However, for the economy of Guangdong, the destructive power of the war was unprecedented. From the historical perspective of modern Guangdong's economic development, Japan's invasion of Guangdong caused the region's economy to decline from its peak to a low point, and the economic landscape of the province underwent significant changes both during and after the war. What extent of damage did Japan's war of aggression inflict on the economy of Guangdong? How did it affect subsequent economic development? This is an academically significant issue worthy of in-depth exploration with practical implications. It is precisely because South China's importance in the history of the Anti-Japanese War was not as prominent as that of some other regions that research on the history of Guangdong's resistance to invasion has been relatively weak. Existing achievements have primarily focused on the anti-invasion struggles of the Guangdong people, while the topic of the losses Japan's invasion caused to Guangdong's economy and the economic construction efforts of the Guangdong authorities during the war have long been neglected. Therefore, conducting an in-depth and systematic study of this issue will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the significant changes in Guangdong's social and historical during the Anti-Japanese War, thereby exploring the profound impact of war destruction on the regional social development process in China.
