Features: As a key research base for humanities and social sciences in ordinary universities jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, the Center for China Special Economic Zone Research at Shenzhen University has taken it upon itself since its establishment to study the general laws of the development of special economic zones, explore the paths and models of China's modernization, and research the reform and innovation theory and practice of special economic zones. Through various academic forms, including the creation of the "China Special Economic Zone Forum," it has united scholars both domestically and internationally, forming an environment for seeking truth and fostering diverse perspectives in special economic zone research. After years of effort, the Center has produced a series of academic achievements rich in intellectual rigor and theoretical contributions. Seeking the "Root" and "Spirit": Exploring the Path of Reform and Innovation in China's Special Economic Zones is one such achievement, featuring selected papers from four China Special Economic Zone Forums held between 2001 and 2004. These papers reflect the thoughts and aspirations of those in the special economic zones as they explore new paths for reform and innovation in the face of new challenges. I sincerely hope and wish that this collection of essays will attract attention from all sectors of society and yield tangible results.
