Patient's question:
I've always been unclear about the differences between D&C (Dilation and Curettage) and induced abortion, nor am I clear about their harms. Which one, between D&C and induced abortion, is more harmful?Doctor's answer:
There is no comparison between D&C (Dilation and Curettage) and induced abortion, so it's not about which one is more harmful. The reason is that D&C is only necessary if a follow-up ultrasound after medication or surgical abortion reveals incomplete miscarriage with residual tissue inside the uterus. In other words, if you don't undergo a miscarriage treatment, or if the uterus is clean after the treatment, there's no need for D&C. Therefore, there's little comparability between the two, and it's not about which one is more harmful. The only thing that can be explained is that the more frequent and repeated miscarriages are, the greater the harm to the body.
