Doctor's answer:

Trichomoniasis can be spread through sexual contact or indirect contact. Pools, hot tubs, and especially bathtubs can become sources of transmission. Metronidazole (Flagyl) 200mg, taken orally three times daily for 7 days, constitutes one course of treatment; a 1% lactic acid or 0.5% acetic acid or 1:5000 potassium permanganate rinse or sitz bath of the vagina once daily, followed by the insertion of 200mg of metronidazole into the vagina, may also be used. Alternative treatments include Tinidazole or Carbarsone. Note: Both partners must understand and participate in the treatment. Sexual activity is prohibited during treatment. Undergarments and towels should be boiled to sterilize them. Alcohol should be avoided during medication. After the trichomoniasis test results turn negative, a vaginal discharge test should be conducted after each menstrual period for three consecutive times. Only when the trichomoniasis tests are negative on all three occasions can the condition be considered cured.
